I’ve been threatening to build a new PC every six months for the past 3 or 4 years, I just never pull the trigger on it. I don’t know why, seeing as I have no real problem spending as much money as it would take going out to bars and dinner and everything else.
This time though, it’s for real. I’m doing it. Soon.
There are simply too many bad ass PC games coming out soon that I want to try out. You’ve got S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, Crysis Warhead, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Spore, Mirror’s Edge… and then those games that I missed out on like the original Crysis, the enhanced version of The Witcher, and finishing the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The good thing is, I don’t need to buy everything. I have a lot of old components I can reuse from previous machines. I don’t need a case, keyboard, monitor, mouse, hard drive, or PSU. Only a GPU, CPU, motherboard, and RAM, I think.
Here’s the latest spec’ed out set (this’ll be fun to look back on years from now):
- Motherboard: MSI P7N Platinum
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale - 3.0GHz
- RAM: Kingston 2×1GB DDR2 800
- And the graphics card: PNY GeForce 8800GT 512MB
All of that should set me back about $500 all told, including shipping and taxes. Not too bad. Now someone needs to steal my credit card and order it for me.
