Walking Dead

I just picked up the first volume of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman’s zombie apocalypse epic. I heard good things about it multiple times on GFW Radio, and since I recently finished up Preacher, I figured I’d dive right in.

I’m most of the way through the first trade, pretty good so far. It starts of with the main character, Rick Grimes, waking up from a coma in a hospital to a world overrun by zombies. From there we follow Rick as he searches his town and ends up making his way to Atlanta to find his wife and child. Nothing over the top or noteworthy has happened up to this point, only what you’d expect from a zombie story. The only other thing I can say about what I’ve read so far is that the first half of the book seems incredibly rushed. By the end of the first 20 pages, Rick has met 2 remaining living people in his town and already peaced out to Atlanta to find his family. Seems like he’d explore a little more and maybe provision himself with some actual supplies before venturing onto the road out of town. I’m guessing it’ll pick up and improve as I get to know the characters and as Kirkman finds his groove. This is the beginning of an epic after all.

Mo’ Preacher fo’ me (or is it “Preachah”?)

Just got vols. 6, 7, and 8 of Preacher in the mail. Eff Tee Double-U.

As I’ve been getting into these graphic novel series, the cost of buying each trade is kind of ridiculous. A 10-part series would cost at least $120, and that’s if you get a good deal. I suppose I could buy used copies, but those aren’t that cheaper either on eBay. I’ll probably end up letting some people borrow them, then keeping them for my kids to read when they’re old enough. And Preacher… no one is old enough for that shit.
